According to the 1900 U.S. Census, Nathan Hunter was living in Sexton Creek, Clay County, Kentucky. He was a farmer who was unable to read or write, as was common in those parts. The 1920 U.S. Census tells us that sometime after his wife Nancy's death in 1915, he moved in with the family of his son, George Washington Hunter.
Sometime between the 1920 census and his death in 1924, Nathan moved to Metamora, Franklin County, Indiana. He is buried in Metamora Cemetery along with two of his sons (George and John) and other Hunter family members.

Nathan was the son of George Washington Hunter and Edith Elizabeth Massey. He was born in Buncombe County,
North Carolina and died in Metamora, Franklin County, Indiana. He married Nancy Fields on April 5, 1868 and the
couple had three sons: William Henry Hunter, George Washington Hunter and John Anderson Hunter.
